John McCarthy Obituary

John F. McCarthy passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2020.  He was born in Bayonne to the late Mary (nee: Fury) and was a long-time resident of Holmdel.  John proudly served the country as a member of the United States Air Force, being stationed in North Carolina and Greenland before being honorably discharged from service.

Thereafter, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating an employment agency in New York City for many years, then opening United Check Cashing, a business based in Clifton with a second location in Hazlet.  John served his home community of Holmdel as an ardent supporter of the Holmdel First Aid Squad, the Holmdel Youth Athletic Association and the Holmdel Stallions. He was even more active in the work community acting in various roles, including being a member of Board of the Keansburg Senior Center and the Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce. John was also a long time and proud member of the County Corkmen Association of Bayonne, and would return each year with his children to march under the Corkmen banner in the Bayonne St Patrick’s Day parade. More than anything John took an extreme amount of pride in his children and grandchildren, attending, coaching and loudly cheering them on at a multitude of soccer, baseball, basketball, martial arts, track and field and wrestling events over the years.

John was predeceased by his wife, Lucy (nee: Kiza) McCarthy.  He is survived by his loving wife, Donna (nee:Ardolino) McCarthy; his dear children, John Bryan McCarthy, Christopher Justin McCarthy, and his wife, Danielle, Kristen Anshelewitz, and her husband, Chad, David Sturniolo, and Steven Sturniolo, and his wife Lauren; his cherished grandchildren, CJ and Luke Anshelewitz, and Leo, Vince and Henry McCarthy; his dear siblings, Veronica Overholser, Maryann Koserowski, Patricia Morganroth and Monica Halloran; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his loving sister, Elizabeth Tansey.
