Adolph “Dolph” Walter passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at his Pompton Plains residence. He was born in Hoboken to the late Elizabeth (nee: Preschle) and Adolph Walter, Sr. and was a long-time resident of Bayonne and Butler.
Mr. Walter was a self-employed commercial real estate appraiser. He also owned and operated Reith’s Bakery with his late wife, Lorraine, from 1955 to 1990. He was also a partner at the Bayonne Brokerage firm of CKW Securities from 1969 to 1974.
Mr. Walter was very involved in the local community, serving as the President of the YMCA Board from 1985 to 1989, as the President of Kiwanis Club, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bayonne Public Library, as a member of the Board of Directors and Camp Committee of the Boy Scouts, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army and Red Cross. He was also a charter member of the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine (nee: Swier) and his dear son, Robert. He is survived by his beloved sons, Michael (Kathy), John (Cathy), James (Janet), and Kenneth (Trina); his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Alberto), Danielle (Kevin), Bobby (Joanna), Jacqueline, Johnny, Samantha, Kenny, and Joseph; his adoring great grandchildren, Elisheva, Judah, and Natalia; his dear siblings, Ralph (Demi) and Rita (Paul); and many loving nieces and nephews .
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, October 28, 2019. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, October 27, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent’s Food Pantry.
