Marie C. Komar (nee: Higgins) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was born in Jersey City to the late Mary (nee: Quinn) and Michael Higgins and was a lifelong resident. She was a secretary for the City of Bayonne, where she served four mayors, prior to retirement.
Marie was an active citizen and spent countless hours serving the community in various volunteer roles. She was a member of the New Frontier Democrats, the Rutkowski Association, the BEOF Board, the Library Board, the Historical Society, the Red Hatters, Young at Heart, and the Downtown Seniors. Her service was honored by the City of Bayonne when they celebrated “Marie Komar Day.”
A devoted parishioner of Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish, she was a long-time member of its Rosary Society.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Komar; and loving daughter, Marie Elaina Komar. She is survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Michael and Jay Chervenak, Robert Campbell, Robert, Roger, Brian and Richie Higgins, and Lorraine Ernst. She was predeceased by her dear siblings, Dorethea Lynch, Margaret Campbell and Robert Higgins; and her loving niece and nephews, Geraldine Chervenak, and Brian Campbell, William Campbell, Jr., and John Higgins.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, May 22, 2026. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be received at bayonnememorialhome.com.
