Robert Duffy Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Robert D. Duffy.  He died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

A graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth, he was employed at Exxon Research, Linden, prior to retirement.

He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Nuremberg, Germany.

Robert was the proud son of Irish immigrant parents, Sarah (nee: O’Donnell) and William Duffy.  He was the devoted husband of 42 years of the late Mary Ellen (nee: O’Donnell) Duffy, who died in 2020.

He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Ann and Walter Dillon, Pat and Jim Kelly, and James and Marylou Duffy.

Robert was the loving uncle to Grace and Walter Dillon, Maureen and Jim Slover, Kay and Bruno Ciaralli, Roseann and Steven Freeman, Colleen Finnerty, and her husband, Delsin Mills, and Patrick Finnerty.

He was also the loving great uncle to Caitlin and Bob Jordan, Mackenzie and Madison Jordan, Amy and Jim Slover, Maria and Patrick Spitzer, Ryan Ciaralli, Anthony Ciaralli, Kimberly and Shane Freeman, Charlie Dillon and Chelsea and William Franczak.

Bob was the loving brother-in-law to Elizabeth (nee: O’Donnell) Finnerty.

Bob’s kindness, devotion and generous spirit to his family and all his loved ones was unwavering and he will be deeply missed.

His absence is what hurts the most because no one can take his place.
