Robert Schoonmaker

Robert Schoonmaker, 79, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Bayonne Medical Center. He was born in Hoboken to the late Marion (nee: Harzlak) and Frank Schoonmaker and resided in Jersey City before settling in Bayonne in 1979.

Mr. Schoonmaker was a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service in Jersey City. A former member of the K & S Social Club, he was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved vacationing in Aruba and was a Yankee and Giant fan.

Mr. Schoonmaker is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Eileen (nee: Shara) Schoonmaker; his loving daughters, Jo Ann Cappoli (the late George) and Mary Ellen Burd (Greg); his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Cappoli, and Alexandra, Emily and Caroline Burd; and his dear siblings, Betty Galiano, and Dennis and Jackie Schoonmaker,. He was predeceased by his dear sister, Marion Schuderkopf.

The funeral will be conducted by the Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. A funeral Mass will be offered at the Parish of Blessed Miriam Teresa at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
